The CryoPen is a small and portable pen-like instrument, which uses Nitrogen Oxide to deliver a quick and effective Cryotherapy (Freezing) treatment. It uses a state-of-the-art, linear compression cooling technology to freeze the tissue. When a cell is rapidly brought down to a very low temperature and ice crystals form and the cell dies. Water then rushes into the surrounding area causing a blister and a disruption of the local blood supply. The dead tissue is removed, re-epithelisation takes place and new skin develops. Cryosurgery requires no anaesthesia and has fewer side effects than other techniques for skin lesion removal and there is minimal post procedural care requirement although we recommend the use of a good sunblock whilst the new skin is forming and any blister or scab should be allowed to resolve by itself.
